“Biggest Party in Town! “
The Lady Boys of Bangkok are now considered a festival season ritual, having entertained the masses for decades with their unique brand of cabaret. The Sabai pavilion returns once more to its new home on Lothian Road at Festival Square with another 90-minute spectacular performance dripping in sequins and ensuring their audiences get the biggest party in town.
Having reviewed several previous productions, the question over the ethics of the performers choices has always been to the forefront as it needs to be remembered these ladies are in fact boys and earn their livings from the illusion of being women. However, it’s clear the entire cast is born to perform and take joy from it, add to the fact the entire company are from Thailand and the Asian sub-continent a truly different cultural background from the UK, it’s more important than ever to appreciate the performance talent on stage.
The 2023 show once again delves into a plethora of pop hits accompanied by excellent dance routines and eye-popping costumes. Throw into the mix “traditional” drag comedy which gives a real moment of emotion as the company pay tribute to the late Tina Turner it all adds up to a fun night out.
The Lady Boys is by no means a cheap evening’s entertainment with tickets starting from £25 all the way up to £35 each do the boys deliver value for money? From this viewing the answer is yes! The packed audience were on the feet roaring there approval as the Cast performed there traditional Scottish finale as the doors were thrown open and the audience head out into the night, one thing is for sure they will be back in there droves for next year’s show and the Lady Boys of Bangkok will deliver once more!
