Attend the Tale! Sweeney Todd Returns.
Renowned Edinburgh based company Captivate Theatre wowed the Fringe audiences in August last year with their production of Sondheim’s Classic “Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” performing to critical acclaim and sell out audiences.
The company are reuniting the “Sweeney” cast for a strictly limited run of the production in Musselburgh’s Brunton Theatre, telling the story of the man wrongly convicted and seeking revenge aided by the lady who rightly claims to make the worst pies in London until Sweeney dispatches his victims straight to Mrs Lovett’s Pie Oven. It is considered to be the benchmark in Stephen Sondheim’s career.
These performances will once again feature the incredible Hazel Beattie and Darren Coutts as Mrs Lovett and Sweeny respectively joined by the ensemble cast under the direction of Resident Company Director and Producer Sally Lyall. The orchestra will see the return of Ian Murray Redpath Sutherland to the conductor’s podium and the company promise to wow the east Lothian audiences with a west end calibre performance.
Captivate recently visited the Brunton Theatre with a revival of their production of Les Miserable and despite the effects of the beast from the east performed to sell out audiences so indications are that Sweeney Todd will be a sell out too so book those tickets before it’s too late.
Following the conclusion of the Brunton performances, Captivate Theatre will turn its attention to the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival as it returns to the Rose Theatre with a programme of 8 productions featuring, 13, Annie, Whistle Down the Wind, Les Miserable, Rabbie the Musical, Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar and the award winning Brave Macbeth truly a programme with something for everyone.
So why not hurry along and attend the tale of Sweeney Todd for a macabre and thrilling evening of theatre.
