MGA to offer Degree’s, Edinburgh Arts News:
Scotland leading home of professional arts training, MGA have announced that following the success of there HND programmes are to launch three fully-comprehensive BA (Hons) degrees* in Musical Theatre, Acting and Dance Performance from September 2018!
In collaboration with Bath Spa University, MGA undergraduate courses will be offered in the form of three degrees. Last year, MGA became the first full-time professional training academy in Scotland to receive accreditation for its Dance and Musical Theatre courses by the CDET, the UK’s quality assurance and membership body for the professional dance, drama and musical theatre training industries.
Drew Gowland, Co-founder and Managing Director of MGA said “For more than a decade, we have been providing students with exceptional training on par with London’s leading dance and drama schools. We are thrilled to now announce that our students will now also receive academic recognition from Bath Spa University when they graduate. Our training has allowed our graduates to build successful, international careers on stage and screen and now they will also leave with a degree, enabling them to pursue professional teaching work and postgraduate level study.”
Going on to say “We will also be offering top-up courses and degrees for those who have already gained HNC and HND qualifications in Acting, Musical Theatre or Dance and are looking forward to welcoming students from schools across the UK and Europe. MGA keeps fees as low as possible to appeal to a broad range of prospective students while also maintaining the high quality of staff and tutors who teach here.”
Mark Langley, Head of Music and Performance at Bath Spa, also welcomes this new partnership saying “Our aim is always to work with great partners who help us improve and develop our network across the UK. To have such an exciting partner in Scotland is great news for us and for all the potential students who can get top-quality training for the west end and beyond. We are delighted to be working with MGA and look forward to the possibilities ahead.”
This is a marked change in the theatrical training landscape of Scotland. As until now the degree opportunities have been limited to the west coast or south of the border. All of us at Scotsgay Arts send our best wishes to the team at MGA and to all those potential students who will reap the benefits of studying for a degree here in Scotland.
